Lead Analytical Chemist
Your job will involve performing analysis of beer, phytocannabinoids, terpenes, alcohol, calories, etc. If it involves analytics, you have to be able to do it. Familiarity with a myriad of instrumentation and techniques including HPLC, analytical SFC, ELSD, GCMS, LCMS, ICPMS, etc. will be necessary. This role is for a seasoned scientist, and will involve developing and optimizing new methods and critically evaluating relevant scientific advances and integrating that knowledge.
This is a full-time position. You'll be working from our (fully legal) R&D lab. Start immediately.
Typical tasks include:
Analytical evaluation of biological materials that includes: extraction of samples for chemical analyses and performing routine testing using standard operating protocols (SOPs).
Obtaining well-documented, reproducible and reliable results with limited supervision.
Developing and implementing appropriate analytical methodology and procedures following US FDA, Canada, and standard global guidelines/methods.
Managing external analytical testing.
Performing instrument set-up, operation, and maintenance. Requires competency in common laboratory skills, and method development
Advancing the technical capabilities of the department by evaluating, recommending and implementing new technologies to meet business needs.
Presenting project results and recommendations to senior management.
Providing guidance (scientific and administrative) for junior analytical scientists.
Maintaining and meeting the highest standards in quality and regulatory compliance.
Developing alternatives and solutions for a range of complex problems. Solutions require creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, considering a broad range of potential impacts, including those that are downstream.
Proactively seeking out new information in the literature, regulations or other sources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with HPLC, analytical SFC and chromatography
Detail oriented documentation skills
Ability to review, compile, and communicate sample analysis results
Must have performed a similar function in the past
Must be willing to roll up sleeves and do work yourself since we are a startup and will not have much in the way of support staff for a while
An understanding of how startups work
Masters or Ph.D. in a related field
Ability to manage, lead and inspire others.
NICE TO HAVE
Ability to work legally in Canada – but if not, it’s OK. We’ll cover your immigration.
Preferred experience in analytical testing of medical cannabis.
Experience in preparing regulatory submissions.
