THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We helped the legal team build out a Gantt Chart for our Industrial Hemp License application and clean up our sheet for Alcohol Licensure.

  • We ordered laptops for the newest members of Productivity and Product.

  • We made a plan with the Product Team for on-boarding their new consultants.

  • We continued pushing all of our current candidates through the interview and hiring process, including going out with another offer this week.

  • We’ll need to review the first draft of the jobs page on the Province Website before it goes live.

  • We need to reach out to the Project Management Institute about them posting our openings.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We helped the legal team build out a Gantt Chart for the upcoming Annual Shareholder Meeting.

  • We joined two interview calls for process engineer and are pushing those candidates on to the next level.

  • We’ve begun discussing updating our training procedure. Caitlin’s move to Ontario should be complete in October, which will facilitate her doing more in-person one-on-one trainings. In the meantime, we’ve expanded the basic training schedule and held some additional phone trainings for new team members.

  • We facilitated shipping our conference booth to Chicago, in advance of Arcview Chicago.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We need to get all of our job descriptions up on the Province website.

  • We need to do a general check-in with all of our recruiters, get them updated job descriptions, and push them for more candidates.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • The research neurobiologist we made an offer to accepted. We’re looking forward to welcoming her to the team in October.
  • Dooma also has a new executive assistant who will be starting on the 10th. We’ve already completed the Productivity Team’s on-boarding for her, and Dooma will start his on-boarding this week
  • Unfortunately, the extraction specialist who accepted our offer had to withdraw from the role. It’s always disappointing when something like this happens, but it’s better to have someone realize the position isn’t right for them earlier rather than later. We’ve gone back to our recruiters and hope to have new candidates soon.
  • We signed with two new recruitment firms for engineering hires and held kick-off calls with each, as well as our other new generalist firm.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We now have several interesting new candidates for process engineer (with more expected soon), and we need to make sure those interviews happen quickly.
  • Our team had a very productive call with the founders about how to improve our hiring success, and we’re working on planning some trainings to improve our interview process, and also revising some of our job descriptions to better target the interests of different hires.

  • We went out with offers for two new members of the Product Team including a research neurobiologist. 
  • We held a kick-off call with a new recruitment firm and signed a contract with another firm highly recommended by Auxly.
  • We planned the on-boarding for the new extraction specialist, but he had to delay his start date.

  • We completed our portion of the on-boarding for Faye.
  • We went out with an offer for a cannabis extraction specialist and he accepted. Legal will be working on his employment agreement this week.
  • We approved a contract with a new recruitment firm.

  • We worked with the Finance Team to complete an update of the Gantt Chart for the going public transaction.
  • We found a temp replacement for Dooma’s Executive Assistant.
  • Faye Almeshaan accepted our offer to join the Business Development and Fundraising Team and we completed initial on-boarding for her.
  • We posted our final two intern positions.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll be completing on-boarding for Faye Almeshaan.
  • In and ideal world, we may be able to get up to three offers for new hires out this week. And we need to follow up with our recruiters about all the outstanding positions.
  • We need to do a complete Smartsheet Review of all Gantt Charts.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We finished Productivity on-boarding for Greg Foster. He’ll be doing his one-on-one training with Dooma at the end of this week and then he’ll be on full-time!
  • We prepared two offers, one for a Process Engineer for the Product Team and another for a new member of Business Development and Fundraising. The first has already gone out and is under consideration, and the other will go out as soon as we get the call scheduled with the candidate.
  • We booked a trip for a Product Team potential hire to visit Toronto and meet everyone in-person.
  • We held preliminary, and follow-up interviews with three candidates for Dooma’s new Executive Assistant.
  • We created several Gantt Charts and help do revisions of several sheets for the Business Development and Fundraising Team.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We received a new timeline for the going public transaction and will be assisting the Finance Team to update that Gantt Chart.
  • We learned of a new high-priority hire needed for the Product Team, and we’ll be working to get that description together first thing this week so we can get it out quickly.

  • We began on-boarding for our new Product Team Leader. 
  • We’ve started getting resumes for several of our open positions and have begun holding interviews.
  • We held a full internal review of all open positions.

  • We’ll be planning trips to meet several possible candidates in person.
  • We’ll be working with the legal team to get out several consulting agreements for new members of the Product Team.

  • We made an offer to someone to be our new Leader of the Product Team, and he accepted. 
  • We held calls with both of our new recruiters to discuss our job postings in more detail.
  • We held our first interviews for fall interns, and made contact with three Co-Op Programs for our full-time intern postings.

 

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll be following up with both of our recruiters and hopefully will begin scheduling interviews for the six positions we now have open.
  • We’ll be finalizing plans to make a small bulk order of laptops required for our two Research Assistants and several planned new hires and interns.

  • We signed on with two Ontario-based recruiters.

  • With the patent submitted, we need to turn all our attention to getting ready for production, and we had several conversations to get everyone on the same page for this.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We switched the team over from Slack to Cliq.
  • After Dooma’s trip to ICRS, we did a complete review of all the potential Product Team hires in the pipeline and worked out a strategy for moving forward.
  • As we continue to look at alternate locations, we began reaching out to Ontario-based recruiters.
  • We got an initial proposal from Nova Scotia Business about what they could provide for a Payroll Rebate.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll be completing at least two new job descriptions, and also get all current postings out to Ontario recruiters.
  • We’ll be getting back to Nova Scotia Business with some comments on their proposal.

  • We got a new Product Team job description to the new recruiters we’ll be trying out.
  • We tested out several alternatives to Slack, and will be implementing one next week.
  • We coordinated with the Business Development and Fundraising Team to begin gathering some budget numbers needed for upcoming government funding applications.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • Nova Scotia Business who manages the Payroll Rebate Program followed up with some additional questions, and we worked to turn the answersf around in a day.
  • Our new intern, Na’im Jones, started and researched two additional Nova Scotia government funding opportunities that we will look to apply to, and we completed building out all our current efforts in this area on Smartsheet.
  • We’re exploring getting additional help on applying for government funding. We reached out to several grant writers and have one additional call scheduled for next week.
  • The investor meeting planned for this week had to be pushed, but we helped coordinate getting everything in place so we can easily pull the trigger once the meeting is rescheduled.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll begin circulating a new job description for the Business Development and Fundraising Team. Our amazing interns will be leaving at the end of the summer, and we want to have a new member of the team trained and in place before their departure.
  • We’ll begin coordinating with the Business Development and Fundraising Team to gather some budget numbers needed for upcoming government funding applications.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We built out hiring and payroll targets for the next 5 years at Province and submitted them for the Nova Scotia Payroll Rebate Program. The response from Nova Scotia Business has been encouraging.
  • We began preparing to submit to the Nova Scotia Capital Investment Tax Credit and Innovation Rebate Program.
  • We finished the paperwork with our final summer intern and entered all the tasks for his onboarding.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll be planning a trip for a potential investor to meet the team at the end of the week.
  • We’ll be building out a Gantt Chart for all the new potential grants, rebates and other government programs available in Nova Scotia.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • Caitlin visited Nova Scotia and got her Canadian work permit. That means that as soon as a location is finalized she can start the process of moving to join the larger team.
  • We did a walk through of the Novia Scotia building with a potential demo crew and a potential new hire who would help oversee the build-out.
  • We also met with the candidate for Dooma’s executive assistant.
  • The new summer intern accepted our offer and we got the legal team working on final paperwork.
  • We completed drafting several new job descriptions to start circulating.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll be setting interviews with several new exciting candidates for the Product Team.
  • Having been on the road for almost a week, we’ll do a full Gantt chart review of all high priority projects to make sure things are on track.
  • We’ll begin drafting some needed HR documents for upcoming 6-month employee reviews.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We began discussing terms with a candidate for Dooma’s new assistant. Since she would be located at the brewery, a formal contract can’t be signed until the lease is finalized, but the initial conversation went well.
  • We negotiated contracts with two new potential recruiting firms, and began conversations with a new firm that was just recommended.
  • We made an offer to an additional summer intern.
  • We helped the Fundraising Team with a substantial update to their investor tracking sheets on SmartSheet.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • Caitlin will be visiting the new potential brewery building this week and completing some immigration-related tasks while in Canada.
  • We will be discussing terms with a potential new member of the Product Team who would oversee the brewery build-out.
  • We will finalize contracts with at least two recruiters and fast track the next round of Product Team hires.

  • We got Dooma’s temporary assistant up to speed, and completed Slack and Smartsheet trainings with the lab technicians at Loyalist.
  • We scheduled a follow-up interview for a very promising candidate for Dooma’s new assistant.
  • We spoke with several new recruiting firms with specialties in the sciences.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We plan to pick one or two new recruiting firms to try out with one of the new positions we’ll be looking to fill on the Product Team.
  • Hopefully we’ll be able to get an offer out to a candidate for Dooma’s assistant.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We set a hiring plan for the Product Team through the end of 2018.
  • We held our first follow-up interview for the role of Process Engineer and scheduled another for this coming week.
  • We were saddened to learn that we’d be losing Dooma’s assistant Hanna, but respect her choice to decide to accelerate her schooling. We spent much of the week finding a short-term replacement and prioritizing the search for a new assistant.

  • We’ll be developing job descriptions for three new members of the Product Team.
  • We’ll be conducting trainings with the lab technicians at Loyalist and our new intern who will be temporarily covering Dooma’s scheduling.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We set interviews for the new role in the Product Team.
  • We developed a list of priorities for the Legal Team to use when reaching out to contract brewers.
  • We built out preliminary hiring plans for the Marketing Team and Product Team for 2018-2019, and shared them with those team leaders for feedback.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll be scheduling follow-up interviews for the top candidates for the new role in the Product Team.
  • We’ll be finalizing a hiring plan for the Product team through the end of 2018.
  • We’ll be completing some materials required to apply for additional government funding opportunities.

Our Intern, Productivity Team will support the Director Human Resources and Organizational Development and the larger Productivity Team at Province. The Productivity Team at Province both oversees Project Management for the entire company and HR. This will be a research/writing/data entry heavy role. Responsibilities include:

  • Helping to clean up Province’s project management software.
  • Researching Kanban and Agile work systems.
  • Helping to draft HR documents.
  • Pitching in to support other Province teams with research projects.

THIS WEEK'S UPDATE

  • We placed a posting for interns and look forward to seeing what responses we get.
  • We’ve started getting resumes for our new role in the Product Team.
  • We split our Alcohol Licensure Gantt Chart into three separate charts for better clarity.
  • We helped the Fundraising Team plan a trip for a potential investor.

LOOKING FORWARD

  • We’ll be working with the Product Team to build out a list of interview questions for the new candidates we’ll be interviewing.
  • We’ll be working on building out some company-wide HR plans for implementation of the new bonus plan.
